Diabetic eye diseases


If somebody has diabetes this not necesseraly mean that his/her sight will be affected, but there is a higher risk. If diabetes is well controlled there are less likely to have problems, or they may be less serious. However, if there are complications that affect the eyes then this may result in loss of vision.
Most of sight loss due to diabetes can be prevented, but it is vital that it is diagnosed early. Therefore, regular eye examinations are extremely important. Diabetes can effect the eye in a number of ways. The most serious eye condition associated with diabetes involves the retina, more specifically, the network of blood vessels lying within it. The name of this condition is diabetic retinopathy.
